What the heck is a waste station?
We set up a centralized location at events and festivals and sort all the waste from attendees into trash, compost, and recycling. Because we take the responsibility off of the attendee to make the right call as to where their items should be disposed of, we are able to ensure accuracy and eliminate nearly all contamination. For example, a plastic container could be recyclable, but has been soiled with food waste. The attendee puts it in the recycling anyways. This item can’t be recycled unless it’s clean. Or, an attendee puts all of their items in the trash, when all their food waste could have been composted. That’s why we step in to make sure it’s right!

That’s great, but why should that matter to my event? It’s estimated that we only have 30 years left until our landfill is at capacity. When you combine this with the fact that 50% of materials sent to the landfill are compostable, there is a huge opportunity to change that in our community. We’re setting a new standard! Our partners at GFL ensure recycling gets a second life, and our compost provider Dirt Wain turns food scraps back into nutrient rich soil. None of this is possible with a dumpster only option. Our staff ensure that all items are sorted properly to maximize our waste reducing measures.
In 2025 we collected 1,734 lbs. of compostable materials, and we recycled an estimated 350 lbs. of recycling. We plan on doubling these numbers in 2026!
